Design and installation of a foam sprinkling plant

Brondum International  designs, delivers and installs a foam sprinkling plant in Bakkafrost’s fish refinement factory in the Pharoe Islands where polystyrene boxes is produced for transportation of fish.

Polystyrene is an expanding plastic product that is very flammable at a raised temperature.

The foam sprinkler system - type “Hot Foam” - has a light foam that is very expanding. The plant is dimensioned to fill the room with foam in maximum 5 minutes. A possible fire will decompose a part of the foam and consequently the plant is dimensioned to fill the room with foam five times during the first 15 minutes. This is according to standard from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

The water supply comes from two diesel pumps that each deliver the necessary quantity of water. The pumps are supplied from a reduced reservoir. The foam concentrate will be supplied from an electrical driven foam pump and is secured against electrical cut with an emergency generator.
